Happy Monday, everyone!I hope everyone had a restful weekend.
This past weekend I attended the funeral for a very sweet and special lady in my life. You see, I have known Grandma Grace my entire life. She lived across the street from my Grandparents in Milledgeville, GA until three years ago. Unfortunately, in 2009 her health began to decline so she moved out to Denver, Colorado to be close to her family.
Growing up, I always enjoyed visiting Grandma Grace. Anytime I went to visit my Grandparents, I spoke to them briefly before walking across the street (Yes, I always looked both ways to make sure a car was not coming) to Grandma Grace’s house. I spent hours and hours at her house visiting with her, in fact, my parents or grandparents would often call her to send me home. I often sent Grandma Grace cards, pictures, and care packages. Once she entered the nursing home in Colorado, her family would read her the cards I sent and she would always talk about me.
Grandma Grace had a heart made of gold. She was not quick to anger and never met a stranger. Grandma Grace traveled all over the world until she hit her late 80’s. She loved animals, particularly her grand-puppies, Mady, Emma, and Lily, the squirrels, and sometimes the geese. I vividly remember her frequently chasing the geese out of her yard many times. When I grow old, I hope to be as active as Grandma Grace was throughout her life. Grandma Grace loved going to church every Sunday, loved working with children, and she loved picking up sticks and pine cones in her neighbors yard. Additionally, Grandma Grace loved cooking and made the best white chocolate peanut butter cookies. She also loved (most of the time) the Atlanta Braves. She could tell you record batting hits, every player, etc. I know that when Grandma Grace was standing at Heaven’s gate that God said, without hesitation, well-done, my faithful and good servant!
Dear Grandma Grace,
I know that you would not want me to be sad now that you are gone but I cannot help it. You were and are the sweetest person that I have ever met. I can only hope to be a wonderful as you one day. I know that you are having a big party with Jesus right now and lord knows picking up every. single. Pine cone laying in God’s Kingdom and chasing the geese away. I am sure you are making friends in heaven and recreating friendships with those who passed before you.Thank you for so many wonderful memories throughout the years. I will always hold them near and dear to my heart!
I will always love you to the moon and back, Grandma Grace!
